The California Journal of Women Writers
Viscera, Volume 2

Viscera, an online anthology from The California Journal of Women Writers, is currently accepting submissions of poetry, prose, and visual art.

The California Journal of Women Writers is currently seeking submissions from North American women-identified writers for our second biannual chapbook of poetry, prose, and visual art. There is no overarching theme so feel free to send us your best work.

Submissions

You must be a North American woman-identified writer submitting your own, unpublished creative poetry, prose, and/or visual art.

As a literary journal, we naturally depend on the submissions of accomplished writers/artists and on new talents. We encourage all of our subscribers and visitors to submit continuously if previous manuscripts go unpublished. As a journal primarily focused on finding talents throughout North America, we stress the value of perseverance with regards to publishing for the first time, and hope that all those who submit will continue to do so.

Publishing Rights

The California Journal of Women Writers requires first serial rights to all publications, meaning that we will be the first publisher of all submissions. After your work is published in our review, however, you may publish your work elsewhere without any affiliation to us. We only maintain the right to use your work, or parts of it, for the issue in which it is published, and occasionally online in relation to the issue.

Guidelines

Simultaneous submissions are accepted and encouraged, but let us know immediately if your work is to be published elsewhere. Please allow several weeks for our editors to respond to your work before you submit again. If after this time period you have still not received a response, please notify us by email and we will check to see if your submission was received.

Submissions should be single-spaced and include a header with your name and email address on every page. Please select the "No Spacing" option in Word for the ease of formatting your work, making any necessary changes in formatting thereafter. Please proofread your work thoroughly to ensure acceptance.

Include a short bio of yourself in the cover letter, which will be published with your work, should your work be accepted. Refer to other journal "Biography" sections for examples.

For the title of your submission, please include only the title of the actual work via Submittable, as we will already have your name.

PLEASE NOTE:

In order to remain independent TCJWW has made the difficult decision to charge a small submission/reading fee. This fee is necessary to offset our costs and to allow us to maintain the exceptional quality of work that TCJWW strives for.

Fees are $3.00 per submission. Our online submission manager will automatically direct you to our PayPal account. Submissions without payment will not be considered.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to reading your work.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted. If your work is accepted elsewhere, you must notify us immediately to withdraw your submission. Only previously unpublished work will be accepted for final publication. If you would like to withdraw your entire submission, please log in to the Submission Manager system and click "withdraw." If you would like to withdraw only a part of your submission, please notify us by email at editor@tcjww.org and include your name, the title/genre of your submission, and which pieces are still available if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

At this time we cannot offer payment for work accepted in Viscera but hope to make this a reality someday. Viscera will be available online in PDF format.
